Screen Machine now 3D digital!

In December Screen Machine travelled south to west London where our technical suppliers Sound Associates removed the 35mm film projection equipment and installed the new digital cinema projection equipment including 3D.

Screen Machine is now operating entirely as a digital cinema! The first tour programme includes: James Cameron's astonishing sci-fi 3D film Avatar, Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, the award winning drama An Education, and Robert Downey Jnr in Sherlock Holmes.

For the technically minded, we have installed a Christie CP2000-ZX projector, a DoReMi digital server, and will be using the Xpand 3D system.

The conversion to digital has been possible due to generous grants from the UK Film Council and from Scottish Screen.

An article describing the conversion process will be published in the March 2010 issue of Cinema Technology magazine
